The annual dinner brings together business leaders, professionals and community members who work across Australia and Latin America. Its Business Excellence Awards recognise organisations and individuals building stronger commercial and community links between the two regions.

Highlight of the night: AFL, business and Latin America

A standout moment of the evening was a panel discussion on the growing links between Australian Rules football, business and Latin America, with a particular focus on AFL Colombia. The panel featured:

  • Joshua Kennedy, former Sydney Swans premiership player, AFL Colombia associate and building industry business owner
  • H.E. Diego Felipe Cadena, Ambassador of Colombia
  • Trevor Woolfe, Deputy Chair of ALABC, as moderator

Brownlow Medallist and former Hawthorn premiership player Robert DiPierdomenico was also in the room for the conversation.

The panel touched on the AFL’s Latin American connections, from past players such as Jose Romero (Chile) and Heritier Lumumba (Brazil) to current players including Tim Kelly (Chile), Leo Lombard (Cuba) and Christian Moraes (Brazil). The key message was that sport can be a powerful bridge between Australia and Latin America, opening doors to cultural exchange, community participation and business relationships.

Why this event matters to us

Fair Path Legal was founded with a clear purpose: to make family law clear, practical and accessible, including for people whose lives and families span more than one country. Our lawyers bring national and international experience across Europe, South America and Australia, and we advise clients in both English and Spanish.

Many of the families we help have ties to Latin America. Some were married overseas, some have children or property in another country, and others simply feel more comfortable discussing difficult personal matters in their first language. Just as the panel showed with sport, strong relationships are what connect our two regions, and events like this help us stay close to the Latin American community in Melbourne.

We congratulate this year’s award finalists and winners, and thank the ALABC, the panellists and everyone who made it such a lively evening.
